Should I buy a used transmission from a salvage yard or have mine rebuilt? It’s one of the most common questions we get.
Here’s the reality: a used transmission is always a gamble. You have no idea how many miles are on it, how it was maintained, or why the vehicle ended up in the junkyard in the first place. It may work great, or it may fail a week after it’s installed. Then you’re paying labor all over again.

Optional upgrade
Trailblazer SS torque converter
For just $100 more, any of the transmissions above can be upgraded with a Trailblazer SS torque converter featuring an 1,800-2,000 RPM stall. It’s a huge improvement over a stock converter and works great with most mild camshaft setups.
